SRV Group has won the public tender for the implementation of the Kalasatama Centre, a major commercial centre located next to the Kalasatama metro station in Helsinki. As a result, SRV Group is now proposed as the developer of the Kalasatama Centre by the City of Helsinki negotiation group. The city council will make the final decision on the developer later this spring.
The new development includes a commercial centre, to be constructed around the axis of Itäväylä and the metro line, and six associated residential, hotel and office high-rise buildings. The first parts of the centre are projected to be completed by 2015, and the rest in stages by 2021. The high-rise buildings will have 20 to 33 floors, with the tallest being 126 metres high. For the environment above Itäväylä and the metro line, there will be an expansive lawn-covered deck, which will also serve as a courtyard area for the residential buildings.
SRV will also construct a significant number of city-owned public spaces for the centre, as well as elements of municipal infrastructure, such as bridges, streets, extension of the metro platform, and 300 park-and-ride parking spots. The city will lease, on a 20-year contract, premises for a health and social services centre with a floor area of approximately 10,000 square metres. The Kalasatama Centre will provide residential housing for over 2,000 people. The centre will be Helsinki’s most important urban development project in the coming years.
SRV Group is the leading builder of business premises in Finland and had revenues of EUR 484.8 million in 2010.
