Retail sector construction speeding up in Finland

Major retailers are now willing to invest more in new premises, according to the Federation of Finnish Commerce

The construction of new retail premises is accelerating in Finland, according to Juhani Pekkala, managing director of the Federation of Finnish Commerce. In his view the level of retail construction was already at a good level during the past few years but there are now signs that the retail sector is willing to invest much more in new construction.

Pekkala believes that one of the factors encouraging the major retailers and chains to undertake new construction projects is uncertainty over the tightening of building regulations due to the prospect of new planning legislation.
