Finnish accommodation establishments recorded 1.343 million overnight stays in November 2013 which was the highest total ever for the month, according to data collected by Art-Travel. The total number of overnight stays went up by 2.4% compared to November 2012.
Domestic visitors accounted for 961,500 overnight stays in November which was an increase of 0.6% from the previous year. The number of overnight stays by foreign visitors increased by 7.2%, reaching a total of 381,500.
Growth in tourism from Russia
From the foreign customers, Russian tourists contributed the most overnight stays with 128,000, which was 14.5% more than in November 2012. The number of visa applications by Russians also increased by 13% and the number of border crossings by 10%.
Visitors from Sweden formed the next biggest group with 31,200 overnight stays, up by 2.6%. The number of nights spent by Germans increased by 0.6% to 24,900, while overnight stays by British visitors went up by 13.9% to 23,200. Overnight stays by Estonians fell by 11.5% to 16,500.
The average occupancy rate in Finnish accommodation establishments was 47.3% and the average price for one night was EUR 57,59.
