Ramboll maps Helsinki region’s potential to be a leading cleantech metropolis

The Helsinki region aims to be a forerunner for clean energy and cleantech.

The objective of the strategy approved by the government of Finland in May 2014 is to spur economic growth in the fields of bioeconomy and cleantech, and to develop the Helsinki region into a forerunner for clean energy and cleantech. One of the spearhead projects of the strategy is the creation of a world-class cleantech reference area in the Helsinki region, which will include zones for the testing and trials of cleantech solutions.

According to Ramboll, the first step towards achieving these objectives requires ambitious goal setting and commitment by the state of Finland, cities of the region, major companies and third sector organizations. From the viewpoint of implementation, seamless cooperation in the Helsinki region and active international cooperation are seen to be of utmost importance. The idea for the reportcame from the Climate Leadership Council formed by Sitra and six major companies: Neste Oil, Fortum, Kone, Outotec, Caverion and ST1.
