The most optimistic sales expectations are in the optical goods and fashion retail trades. Health product retailers and gold and watch retailers also have a positive sales outlook for the first half of the year. In the home appliance and book retail trades sales expectations vary between individual companies.
Sales expectations in the Finnish specialty retail trade remain reasonable and do not reflect any uncertainty among consumers regarding the overall economic outlook, according to Tiina Oksala, Managing Director of the Finnish Federation of Specialty Retailers.
A sixth of the companies responding to the survey believe that they will increase spending on marketing, while an eighth expect to reduce it. The vast majority of specialty retailers expect to maintain their current level of personnel.
Almost 30 specialty retail chains from six different sectors responded to the survey, which was conducted at the end of January. Their total turnover is about EUR 2 billion.
