The world-renowned American architects’ office Studio Daniel Libeskind has revealed its vision for the Tampere Deck and Central Arena, a major landmark development in the city of Tampere in Finland. Featuring materials in wood, glass and metal, as well as open spaces and greenery, the design has been enthusiastically received in Tampere, where the city’s planning process is now in full flow.
Daniel Libeskind’s bold vision will create a unique environment connecting two parts of the city that are currently divided by a railroad. The 60,000 square metre project will be built on top of the railroad and includes 35,000 square metres of business premises, 300 apartments, 250 hotel rooms, as well as the a Central Arena that will cost EUR 95.2 million.
The Central Arena is expected to attract 680,000 visitors annually, with 54% consisting of ice hockey fans and the rest of people attending concerts and other major events. The arena is planned to open in time to host the World Ice Hockey Championships in spring 2013. The project is led by Tampereen keskusareena Oy and NCC Group, in cooperation with the City of Tampere, VR-Group and the Finnish Transport Agency.
