Innovation and competitiveness from wood

Wood is one of Finland’s most important raw materials and it grows faster than it is consumed. In addition to meeting the traditional needs of industry, it is now time to invest in new growth areas like wood construction.

Energy efficiency requirements in construction
Wood construction promotes the realisation of the EU’s climate goals. Wood structures tie carbon, unlike competing materials which release carbon dioxide.

In December 2008, the Finnish parliament gave its support for the EU’s broad climate and energy law package after almost a year of legislative work. The objective of the package is to cut the EU’s carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, improve energy efficiency by 20% and increase the share of renewable energy to 20% of the EU’s energy consumption.

Buildings take up more than 40% of Europe’s energy consumption.
