Finnish hotel chains interested in Porvoo Art Factory development

The Art Factory will become a major new culture and congress centre in picturesque Porvoo where art, entertainment and business interact.

The picturesque city of Porvoo in southern Finland is opening the Porvoo Art Factory in 2012 in a historic factory milieu that is being redeveloped into a major new culture and congress centre. The concept behind the Art Factory is to create a unique place where art, entertainment and business interact. The Art Factory will offer a wide range of functional event facilities alongside artist studios, allowing corporate events to be combined with art experiences.

The plans include a new hotel which has already attracted the interest of the S-Group, Scandic, Next Hotels, Restel and Omenahotellit, according to Matti-Pekka Halonen from the construction company Hartela, which is undertaking the renovation of the factory site. The size and number of floors of the new hotel are still undecided.

The City Council of Porvoo has confirmed some the business tenants in the Art Factory. Vuoristo-yhtiöt will run the main restaurant, while Nordic Ravintolat takes on the new Media Centre’s bistro restaurant.

The Art Factory’s impressive Avanti Hall will seat up to 800 persons and features both a foyer and catering services. The Tehdassali “Factory Hall” can be flexibly adapted for different types of events with up to 150 guests. In addition to numerous other smaller facilities, the complex will house Bio Rex, whose cinema halls can be used for meetings and lectures during the daytime.
