Finland’s top ranking in global mining survey boosts international visibility

Recognition by the annual Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies also highlights business opportunities in the Finnish mining sector, according to Invest in Finland.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Finland has ranked among the global top 10 for mining investment. In addition to its excellent mineral potential, Finland scores highly for its clear regulatory guidelines, effective tax regime and robust labour market. Finland also lowered its corporate tax rate in 2014.

“The confidence miners show in Finland proves it’s possible to enact sound environmental protections and still maintain a successful mining industry,” said Kenneth Green, Fraser Institute senior director, Natural Resource Studies and director of the Survey of Mining Companies.

The survey rates 122 jurisdictions around the world based on their geologic attractiveness and the extent to which government policies encourage exploration and investment. The ranking is based on the responses of 485 mineral exploration and development company executives from around the world. The Fraser Institute is an independent, non-partisan Canadian policy think-tank.
