Zizzi and H&M to open new clothes stores in Finland

The Danish and Swedish clothes retailers plan a significant expansion of their operations in Finland.

The Danish clothing chain Zizzi, part of the Ball Group, is opening its fifth store in Finland in the town of Seinäjoki in May 2011. The Swedish clothes retailer H&M is also expanding its operations in Finland with five new stores opening this year and another four new store launches planned for 2012.

Zizzi is planning to establish a total of 25 stores around Finland over a three-year period, according to director Michael Rask, who is responsible for the expansion of the Ball Group. He is currently looking for prime retail locations in Finland for the new stores.

Zizzi’s business concept is to offer high quality fashion at reasonable prices for women in sizes 42-56. According to Rask, size 42 is now the most popular size in women’s clothes but most other stores only have a limited selection available in this size. About a fifth of women wear size 42 clothes.

Zizzi’s focus on standard and large sizes has helped the chain to grow quickly. Zizzi now has more than 100 concept stores in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Estonia. More than half of the shops are franchises. Zizzi’s clothes are designed in Denmark and manufactured in China.
