wpd Europe acquires another Finnish wind farm project

German company’s four wind power projects in Finland will have combined output of 1000 MW.

The German company wpd europe GmbH has acquired the Tohkoja wind farm project, situated on Finland’s west coast, from the Finnish energy provider Fortum. The parties have not disclosed the sales price of the project.

The project involves the construction of up to 26 wind turbines with an overall capacity of up to 83 MW. According to wpd Europe, the wind farm will be built in phases between 2016 and 2017 close to the municipality of Kalajoki, in the immediate vicinity of wpd’s existing projects in Jokela and Mäkikangas.

Significant milestone

“The acquisition of the Tohkoja project is another important milestone for wpd europe in Finland,” says Helge Rau, head of M&A at wpd.

Through its subsidiary company established in Espoo, wpd Finland Oy, wpd is working on the implementation of more than 600 MW of wind power in Finland and has additionally developed the 400 MW Suurhiekka offshore project.
