Gaming is probably one of the most internationally minded industries in Finland. Already a fifth of its employees are from abroad and more will be coming. Keeping this in mind, a group of leading Finnish gaming companies will take off to the Games Job Fair November 25 in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the event, organized by Finpro, the companies get a chance to meet up with game developers that are ready for international opportunities.
Gaming in Finland is booming. The Nordic country has become one of the global hot spots for games and game development, with a gaming industry that recorded a turnover of 2.5 billion euros in 2016.
Nevertheless, as the industry grows rapidly, many companies are increasingly struggling to keep up with the pace in terms of new employees. The local talent has not been enough to fill the needs of the Finnish gaming industry. Unsurprisingly, 20 percent of its employees come from abroad.
“Game industry has gained a considerable role in Finland,” says Oleg Paliy, Business Advisor at Finpro’s Invest in Finland. “In Games Job Fair, the Finnish companies get an excellent chance to meet and interview Russian game developers and designers, who are interested in international job opportunities.”
The participants of the event will include some of the leading gaming companies from Finland. However, according to Paliy, Finland has even more to offer.
“It does not end there with Finland,” he says. “The country is full of top notch gaming studios. For talented developers there hardly is a better place to build up their careers.”
Even though the event is now organized for the first time, more will follow.
“This concept has been welcomed enthusiastically,” Paliy comments. “We are already planning a similar kind of event in Kiev, Ukraine, as the need for developers and designers among Finnish companies will only continue to grow.”
