The reservation of SRV and Stora Enso totals approximately 27.000 square meters of floor and the buildings are planned to be constructed with Stora Enso’s new Urban MultiStorey wood construction concept. The aim is to create a world-class project in which engineering skills can be taught in a practical way and to develop wood architecture.
Finland’s first five-storey wooden apartment building is currently nearing completion in Vierumäki as a joint project between the City of Heinola, Versowood, Rakennusliike Reponen ja Koskisen Oy. According to Mika Airaksela, managing director of Rakennusliike Reponen, the construction time of wooden apartment buildings can still be speeded up by increasing the size and prefabrication level of the wood elements and by covering the building site and with a rainproof tent.
The construction of wooden apartment buildings is currently a hot topic in Finland and Invest in Finland is also involved in mapping opportunities for wood construction in the country.
