Swedish sports chain Stadium is planning further expansion in Finland this autumn.

Stadium, Sweden’s largest sports chain, has opened another two stores in Finland, located at Lielahti in Tampere and the at Willa shopping centre in Hyvinkää. Stadium now has a total of 17 stores in Finland.

The new 2400 square metre store in Lielahti is Stadium’s largest in Finland and one of the biggest sports stores in the country, according to Bo Eklöf who is the founder of the company. The Finnish newspaper Aamulehti reported that the Lielahti store opening attracted at least a 100m long queue of customers, and guards had to keep many people waiting outside before they could enter the crowded store.

Running products in demand

Stadium’s CEO Gustav Öhrn says that the company is opening four new stores in Finland this autumn and maybe more if good premises become available. According to Eklöf and Öhrn, Stadium’s best-selling products are running clothes and equipment. Their prediction is that the next growing trend is cycling.
