Sartorius to invest EUR 2.6 million in Finnish factory

Modernization of Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy’s factory in Kajaani will set production line standards throughout the Sartorius Group.

German company Sartorius, one of the world’s leading providers of laboratory and process technologies and equipment, is investing EUR 2.6 million to increase the production of disposable pipettes by its Finnish subsidiary Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy. The investment is aimed at increasing the production capacity of disposable pipettes by 30% in the company’s factory located in Kajaani, northern Finland.

The Finnish company Biohit Oyj sold its liquid handling business to Sartorius in 2011. Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling manufactures electronic and mechanical pipettes, disposable pipette tips and related services, for pharmaceutical and chemical industry, clinical laboratories, research institutes and universities.

Setting high standards

According to Sartorius, the modernisation of the Kajaani factory will lay the basis for future production line standards throughout the Sartorius Group. The production of pipette tips for laboratory applications is based on stringent product quality requirements as well as the cleanliness and hygiene of the entire production line.

“New opportunities for capitalising on and developing the strong liquid know-how that has built up in Finland over a long period of time will arise when this know-how is combined with Sartorius’s global distribution channels. Sartorius opted to invest in Kajaani due to the unit’s strong expertise,” says Jussi Heiniö, CEO of Sartorius Biohit.
