Positive outlook for Finland’s industrial and construction sectors

Confidence indicators show continued improvement during the first quarter of 2011.

The prospects for the Finnish economy remain positive, according to the economic barometer published by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK. In most sectors of the economy the situation is already better than the long-term average. The outlook for the industrial and construction sectors in the greater Helsinki region has improved in the first quarter of the year and further growth is expected during the summer. The confidence indicator in EK’s survey was +33 in April, compared to +29 in January this year.

The outlook for industrial companies in Finland as a whole has also continued to improve, with the confidence indicator standing at +24 in April, compared to +19 in January. In the construction sector, one of the hardest hit sectors during the recession, the situation has already normalised. The short-term confidence indicator for the construction sector stood at +23 in April, compared to -6 in January this year.
