Nights spent by foreign tourists in Finland up by 20% in April

The number of overnight stays by Russian tourists increased by 43%, while nights spent by tourists from many other countries also recorded significant growth from one year ago.

The total number of nights spent in hotels in April was nearly 1.2 million, an increase of 2.4% from a year ago. Foreign visitors spent 276,000 nights in hotels, which was 22.3% more than one year ago. The total for resident tourists was 912,000, a decrease of 2.4% from April 2010. The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 48.1% in April, slightly up from one year ago. The realised average price of a hotel room was EUR 87.92 per day, compared to EUR 85.02 one year previously.

For the January to April 2011 period, the number of nights spent by tourists at accommodation establishments totalled 5.7 million, which was 3% more than in the corresponding period one year ago. Overnight stays by resident tourists increased by nearly 1% to 4.1 million. The total number of nights spent by foreign tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments was 1.6 million, which was 10% more than in the same period in 2010. Russian tourists formed the largest group with almost half a million nights spent, showing an increase of 19%.
