A drilling programme by the Canadian mining exploration and development company Mawson Resources Ltd has revealed very high grade results at its flagship Rompas gold project in northern Finland. The Rompas gold project is one of the highest grade, near-surface discoveries in the world, according to Mike Hudson, President and CEO, Mawson Resources.
The company has identified a mineral system over 100 square kilometers. “It is a vast system, one of the best in the business. It is amazing how much gold we have found within a fraction of the 100% owned exploration property,” says Hudson in an interview with Metals News.
Drilling continues during winter
“We plan on building our business in the Nordic countries around Rompas. With the results and backing we have received to date, I believe we are poised for considerable success,” says Hudson. “Much of how quickly the company moves forward is market dependent. As the market improves, the best properties will be better rewarded.” According to Hudson, Mawson’s plan is to get the Rompas project off the ground before handing it to a larger company that can take it to production.
In the meantime Mawson Resources has continued the drilling over the winter. “We have one drill rig turning right now and results are continuing to flow. We have had a lot of geophysical and metallurgical work ongoing,” says Hudson.
