Marriott International plans to open luxury hotel in Finland

New hotel is aimed at business travellers and is located near the headquarters of major Finnish companies.

The American hotel chain Marriott International, Inc. has announced plans to open the 268-room Marriott Helsinki Westend Hotel in partnership with Ultovisto and Nordic Hospitality in 2012.

The hotel will be located at Westend in Espoo, within one kilometre of the commercial districts of Tapiola and Keilaniemi, which accommodate the headquarters of many Finnish companies, including Nokia. The Helsinki Vantaa Airport and Helsinki city centre are both located within a short distance of the site.

“Europe is the largest lodging market in the world and we are excited to see our expansion continue in to Finland,” said Reiner Sachau, chief operations officer for Marriott in Europe. “We look forward to a great partnership with Nordic Hospitality and know this hotel will serve the market well.” The hotel will include conference facilities and a high quality restaurant.

Harald Jacobsen, president of Nordic Hospitality said, “The Marriott Helsinki Westend Hotel will be a fantastic extension for the iconic Marriott Hotels & Resorts brand. We look forward to working with Marriott and welcoming the many travelers that will now have a new deluxe hotel choice when visiting Helsinki.”

Celebrating 35 years in Europe this year, Marriott International is represented with over 175 hotels in Europe and recently announced its goal of doubling its portfolio in the region by 2015.
