Major growth in number of Russian tourists visiting Finland

Tourist trips by Russians to Finland increased by 55% in the first half of 2010, although most visits are not even classified as tourism.

The number of Russian tourists coming to Finland is growing fast. In the first half of 2010, Russian nationals made about 5.5 million tourist trips to Finland, which is 55% more compared to the same period one year ago.

Not all the visits from Russia are statistically recorded as tourism. According to the Russian authorities, a total of 1,485,000 trips were made by Russian nationals to Finland but only 310,000 of these were classified as tourism. The other trips consisted mainly of business trips or travel by Russians living in Finland.

The number of trips by Russians to Finland has been constantly increasing. It is estimated that this year Finland will grant a total of almost one million visas to Russian nationals, most of which are multiple entry visas.
