Helsinki-Vantaa Airport has been named the "Best Airport Northern Europe" at the 2010 Skytrax World Airport Awards. Overall, Helsinki is ranked fourth in Europe and fourteenth in the world.
Helsinki Airport Director Juha-Pekka Pystynen, Senior Vice President of Finavia Corporation, is very pleased about the recognition and thanks everyone who has travelled via Helsinki for their vote of confidence. He believes that the award strengthens Helsinki-Vantaa Airport's position as the world's leading transit airport for traffic between Europe and Asia.
“The Award is a recognition of the fact that Helsinki Airport is making a long-term effort to maintain the quality of passenger services. According to several different surveys, Helsinki Airport has been one the best airports in Europe and the world for nearly 15 years,” says Pystynen. In previous Skytrax surveys Helsinki Airport has also won awards for Best Security Processing and Baggage Delivery, among others.
The World Airport Award is based on the results from 9.8 million questionnaires completed by airline passengers from 100 countries in 2009/2010, covering more than 210 airports worldwide.
The survey evaluates traveller experiences across 39 different airport service and product factors - from the check-in, arrivals, transfer through to departure at the gate.
