Freight volume growth boosts Finland’s transport sector

Finnish transport companies are now aiming for growth after a strong recovery from the recession

Finland’s transport sector is on a growth path thanks to increasing freight volumes that have now almost reached the same level as before the recession. The second half of 2010 was very busy, according to Pertti Puikkonen, regional director for Kaukokiito, which is aiming to take the leading share of the Finnish market this year. Kaukokiito is doubling the size of its warm storage facilities located at Kapernaumi in Seinäjoki.

Kuljetusliike Pöytälaakso Oy is also planning to construct a 1300 square metre terminal at the Kapernaumi site. Harri Renkola, regional director of Schenker/Kiitolinja, also confirms that freight volumes started increasing in latter part of 2010.
