Finnish retail trade turnover up by 9% in March

Strong turnover growth across all product groups and store sizes.

In the period January – March 2012, the total value of the Finnish retail trade was EUR 3.6965 billion, which was 7.8% higher than in the corresponding period one year ago, according to the Finnish Grocery Trade Association.

According to Statistics Finland’s retail trade flash estimate, retail trade sales increased by 9.4% in March 2012 compared to March 2011. Over the same time period, the volume of sales grew by 5.7%

Turnover increased in all product groups. Grocery sales increased by 9.9%, clothing by 9.5% and home and leisure products by 9.0%. The turnover of the wholesale trade in the hotel, restaurant and catering sector grew by 6.9% in March 2012.

Statistics Finland’s retail trade flash estimate is based on a sample covering about half of the retail trade turnover.
