Finnish gaming startup Seriously attracts USD 2.35 million investment

Seriously will launch its first free to play game titles in 2014.

Seriously, a game startup founded by former executives from the Finnish company Rovio Entertainment that developed the hit game Angry Birds, has attracted USD 2.35 million in seed funding. Investors include Los Angeles based Venture Capital firm Upfront Ventures, and Sunstone Capital, which is headquartered in Copenhagen and is one of the most active independent venture capital investors in the Nordic market.

According to Seriously, it is building a global mobile entertainment company, with free to play games at the heart of its business. The company will announce its first titles next year. Seriously’s plan is to build casual games and leverage them to build more durable entertainment and media brands, according to the TechCrunch news website.

Helsinki is mobile gaming capital

The content of the games will be created in Helsinki. “We see Helsinki as the mobile gaming capital of the world and think that’s a great place to build a studio,” says Seriously co-founder Andrew Stalbow in the article by TechCrunch.

Seriously’s other co-founder Petri Järvilehto is the head of the company’s game development. He was previously Vice President of Games at Rovio Entertainment and has about two decades of experience in the gaming industry.
