S-Group and Kesko, Finland’s two major retailers, have both decided to locate their new logistics facilities near Vuosaari Harbour, the most modern port facility in Europe. With their existing warehouses becoming too small and their facilities outdated, both retail giants focused on location as the prime criteria for their new modern logistics facilities. The majority of utility goods sold in Finland are imported, so proximity to the new harbour was an important consideration.
The new logistics centre for Kesko’s Anttila chain is in Kerca, close to the tunnel going Vuosaari Harbour, while the S-Group’s new central warehouse will be built on a 50 hectare plot in Bastukärkk just a few kilometers away. Both sites enjoy excellent access to rail transport and the major roads channelling the freight flow from the south to the north of the country. The S-Group’s central warehouse will cost EUR 150 million and will be its largest ever investment
