Balderton Capital and DN Capital target Finnish start-ups

Finland’s start-up market offers many attractive investment opportunities, according to British venture capital investors.

Finnish Industry Investment Ltd has made a USD 9.4 million commitment to the Balderton Capital V fund. British company Balderton invests in European early stage start-ups across the consumer internet, software and ecommerce sectors. In May this year, the Finnish company TrademarkNow closed an A round worth USD 3.5 million led by Balderton Capital.

“We are excited about the quality and volume of investment opportunities we see coming out of Finland and will be spending an increasing amount of time in Finland looking for and investing in new early stage ventures,” said Daniel Waterhouse, general partner at Balderton Capital, which manages USD 2.2 billion in assets in five funds.

DN Capital keen to invest in Finland

Finnish Industry Investment Ltd has also made a EUR 3 million commitment to British venture capital company DN Capital’s Global Venture Capital III LP. DN Capital focuses on companies in seed, early and growth stages in digital media, e-commerce, software and mobile applications.

“We see Finland as one of the most important start-up markets in Europe and are keen to be active investors in the Finnish market. We look for great entrepreneurs that want to create global leaders in software, mobile and digital media companies. We think the Finnish market is perfect for our strategy,” said Nenad Marovac, Managing Partner at DN Capital.
