Angry Birds secures $42 million investment

Rovio, the company behind the popular Angry Birds game, has secured $42 million (EUR 30 million) in Series A investment.

Currently, Angry Birds is played by 40 million monthly users and the game has grown from an App Store success to become a recognized entertainment franchise in just over a year. Rovio recently announced that sales of Angry Birds plush toys have passed the two million units mark.

Rovio has 50 employees in Espoo, Finland. At the moment, Rovio is working on expanding Angry Birds to more gaming platforms and forms of media. The company has previously announced plans to roll out an online Angry Birds by summer 2011, as well as developing Angry Birds games for major consoles later in the year.
