Helsinki is set for a record tourism year

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists in the Finnish capital has increased by 15% and foreign visitors by 5%.

This year will be the best ever for tourism in the Finnish capital city, according to the City of Helsinki Tourism and Conference Office. Overnight stays at accommodation establishments in Helsinki in January-September 2010 increased by 9% compared to the same period last year. The number of nights spent by domestic tourists has increased by as much as 15%, with the number of overnight stays by foreign visitors also growing by 5%.

So far, the share of foreign tourists from the total number of overnight stays in Helsinki this year is 55%. This year has seen a significant increase in the number of visitors to Helsinki from Sweden, Japan and the United States, while the number of overnight stays by German visitors has decreased.
