Finland’s fashion retail sales expected to grow by 5% in 2010

Sportswear, leisurewear and men’s clothes have been selling especially well in Finland this year.

The textile and fashion sector organisation TMA estimates that Finland’s clothes retail sales will grow by 5% in 2010 compared to the year before. Sales grew by 4.7% to the end of May and June was also a good month, according to TMA. Leisure and sportswear has been selling particularly well in the department stores and large supermarkets, says Veli-Matti Kankaanpää, managing director of TMA.

Tiina Railio, Buying Director for the Stockmann department stores in Finland, says that sales in 2010 have exceeded expectations. Men’s clothes have been selling very well in Stockmann. Halonen, another major clothes retailer in Finland, also expects reasonable sales growth in 2010.

TMA is an organisation of the textile and fashion industry in Finland. Its members include fashion retail chains, department stores, markets and suppliers. Its members make up 84% of Finland’s clothes and footwear retail sales and 94% of the sports clothing and footwear sales.
