Tampere’s new Central Arena is designed to be eco-efficient and self-sufficient in electricity.
There is only one other sports arena in the world which has been built according to such environmentally friendly specifications. The new arena will be 30% more energy efficient than Tampere’s Hakametsä hall or Espoo’s Barona arena. Traffic emissions will fall by 20% per ice hockey match thanks to the arena’s location. The building is planned to be self-sufficient in electricity thanks to the use of solar panels, and eco-efficient district cooling will be piped in from the nearby Näsijärvi lake.
