New hub would provide direct flights to European destinations.
Taskila says that the new hub would require a EUR 200 million investment and involve AirBaltic buying three or four new aircraft. There would be flights from other Finnish airports to the hub, which would offer direct flights to other destinations in Europe.
AirBaltic has been quick to expand its operations in Finland, with ten new routes announced this year. AirBaltic is now flying from Helsinki, Kuopio, Kuusamo, Lappeenranta, Oulu, Tampere, Turku and Vaasa to Riga and Tallinn, as well as some domestic routes in Finland. Further new routes are set to start from Rovaniemi to Tampere and Riga and from Oulu to Stockholm.
AirBaltic is based in Riga, Latvia, and also operates from Tallinn and Vilnius to many destinations in Europe.
