Finnish software sector is doing well

23/06/2009

Finnish software companies are doing well despite the recession and the software market is expected to grow by about 2% this year.

A new survey conducted by the Finnish Software Entrepreneurs Association shows that the sector is coping well despite the recession. Almost half of the software companies that responded to the survey expect their turnover and profitability to grow this year and 42% are planning to recruit more personnel. Only about 10% of the respondents to the survey expect to lay off staff this year.

The association says that the relatively positive situation is due to the fact that almost all the business sectors are using software, a growing trend that has hardly been affected by the recession. Marketvisio, an independent ICT business and management advisor, predicts 2% growth for the Finnish software market this year.

The software companies selling finished products are now at an advantage because they can offer customers a tool that can be used instantly and whose benefits are already proven, according to Matti Heikkonen, chairperson of the Finnish Software Entrepreneurs Association. He also believes that during the recession there is more demand for solutions that cut costs.

The Finnish Software Entrepreneurs Association is a non-aligned association for innovative, professional, growth-driven and entrepreneurial software business executives. It has over 300 members and operates throughout Finland.
