Infotech Oulu, an information technology research center at the University of Oulu, has been granted almost EUR 3.5 million by the Academy of Finland and the Ministry of Education to continue its research activities for the next four years. The funding will especially benefit 25 PhD students at the research center.
According to the university, the doctors who graduate from the research center find employment very well and the sector also produces spin-off companies. The research center offers wide-ranging tuition and excellent networks both nationally and internationally.
According to the Academy of Finland, the importance of IT will continue to grow both in business life and the public sector, so there is a clear need for more IT doctors to develop new technologies. The fact that the students will be closely connected to the business world throughout their studies is also viewed as a positive factor by the academy.
Infotech Oulu is an umbrella organization for the information technology and wireless communications focus area at the University of Oulu.
