Finnish Mobile Association to be established

20/02/2009

Plans are underway to establish a new national organization for the mobile phone sector, which is likely to be called the Finnish Mobile Association (FMA).

Organizer Ismo Rantala hopes that FMA can be formally be established in May and will be up and running by the end of this year.

“Finland has a very strong mobile cluster but we are still lacking a national association that represents the whole country. We have already ensured that there is support for the project from the Finnish companies that operate in the sector and also from the regional players,” said Ismo Rantala at the GSMA Mobile World Conference held in Barcelona.

He has compiled a register of about 200 companies from Finland’s mobile sector and hopes that at least 80 companies will join the association. FMA will be cooperating with similar organizations which already exist in the Nordic countries and beyond, according to Rantala.

In Finland FMA has been assured support this year from Otaniemi Marketing, Invest in Finland, Technopolis and Greater Helsinki Promotion.
