Finnish experts to plan two ecocities in China

Energy self-sufficient EcoCities to be built in China by Finns.

Finnish experts are planning two ecocities in China. Decisions on these projects are expected during the spring. The creation of new business requires the operators to network extensively.

A major demand for sustainable city planning has emerged in rapidly growing areas such as Chinese cities. New solutions are particularly needed in construction, traffic, water supply and decentralised energy production.

Two ecocity projects managed by Finns are currently ongoing in China. The projects are based on the work of Professor Eero Paloheimo, who has envisioned the building of an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly community.

The main principles of an ecocity include a pollution-free atmosphere and the minimum exploitation of natural resources. These goals can be achieved with self-sufficient energy and food production and water supply systems.

Waste management and recycling are connected to other city functions. Another central idea of the ecocity is not to use regular cars. Instead, electrical vehicles are used.

“An ecocity is economical, pollution-free and attractive. Integrated, innovative solutions are required in areas such as using less materials, traffic, energy efficiency, water supply and waste management and socio-economical issues,” says Paloheimo.

An ecocity project carried out in cooperation with Finnish experts is also in progress in the Mentougou District of Beijing. The Chinese counterparty shall decide on the continuation of the project during the spring.
