Finland among the least corrupt countries in the world

18/11/2009

Finland is the sixth least corrupt country in the world, according to Transparency International.

The 2009 Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International ranks Finland as the sixth least corrupt from a total of 180 countries. The Corruption Perceptions Index measures the perceived level of public-sector corruption in 180 countries and territories around the world. The CPI is a "survey of surveys", based on 13 different expert and business surveys.

Corruption threatens the global economic recovery, according to Transparency International.  “At a time when massive stimulus packages, fast-track disbursements of public funds and attempts to secure peace are being implemented around the world, it is essential to identify where corruption blocks good governance and accountability, in order to break its corrosive cycle,” said Huguette Labelle, Chair of Transparency International.
