Travel to Finland is still on the rise despite a slight downturn last year. Compared to 2007, the number of visitors to Finland was up by three percent last year.
A total of 5.5 million visitors overnighted in Finland, 4.7 million of whom checked in at hotels. According to figures released by Statistics Finland, visitors spent a total of 2.2 billion euros, an increase of 5 percent over the year 2007.
This year got off to a favourable start for tourism with a10 percent upswing during the first six months. However, the recession has pushed the latest figures down. The highest growth in visitor numbers was from Russia and the United Kingdom.
