Overnight stays increased by 2,4 %

Overnight stays in hotel accommodation in Finland increased by 2.4% in January-November 2008 compared to the same period a year earlier. Total overnight stays by foreign visitors went up by 3.7%, while the figure for domestic overnighters increased by 2.0%.

Russian visitors formed by far the largest group with 908,600 registered overnight stays, representing a 21.8% increase compared to the period January-November 2007. They were followed by the Swedes with 552,600 overnight stays, the Germans with 552,300 and the British with 406,700. The number of overnight stays for British visitors increased by 11,9% and for German visitors by 1.4%, but fell by 0.5% for Swedish overnighters.

For the Russian visitors, Helsinki was the most popular destination with 226,400 overnight stays, followed by Imatra (94,800), Sotkamo (39,100), and Lappeenranta (37,400).
