Finnish government sets new VAT rates

VAT on food will be reduced and the general rate increasedsummary

The VAT on food products sold in shops in Finland will be reduced from 17% to 12% in October this year, and then increased to 13% in July 2010. The VAT on food sold in restaurants will be reduced from 22% to 13% in July 2010.

The VAT rate for all other products and services will be increased by one percentage point in July 2010. Currently Finland’s VAT rate is 22% for most products and services.
