EasyJet’s Helsinki-London route attracts over 100,000 passengers

More than 100,000 flight passengers have used EasyJet’s Helsinki-London route during its first year of operation.

EasyJet has been flying daily to between London Gatwick and the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport since the beginning of November 2008. The airline initially set a target of 90,000 passengers for the first year, so reaching more than 100,000 passengers has been an excellent achievement, according to Thomas Haagensen, EasyJet’s general manager for Northern Europe.

The Helsinki-London route has also proved to be financially profitable for the company, which now holds a 13% share of the market. About a quarter of the passengers are travelling for business reasons.

EasyJet was established in the UK 1995 and was a pioneer in selling flight tickets over the Internet. The airline now has 166 aircraft and flies to more than one hundred destinations in Europe, with a total of 44 million passengers in 2008.
