VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has signed a cooperation agreement with the Laboratory of Advanced Forming Technology at Tsinghua University and with the technology transfer company Coway International Techtrans Co., Ltd.
VTT and the Laboratory of Advanced Forming Technology start collaboration in the R&D of disc type of heat resistant steel components with PSF (Precision Spray Forming) process to provide sound basis for commercial application of this technology in rapid manufacturing of such demanding components as turbine discs and different molding tools. The collaboration enhances the research cooperation with Tsinghua University, considered one of the top universities in China.
The aim is to strengthen VTT’s commercialization activities in the Chinese markets and can bring notable IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) income to VTT.
Coway focuses on promoting international cooperation between enterprises in China and abroad by promoting international technology transfer. Coway will handpick the best suited technologies for the Chinese markets from the extensive VTT patent portfolio. The cooperation also makes VTT and its products in China better known by offering a good partnership with a well-known Chinese actor to help promote Finnish Technology in China.
VTT has earlier signed a license agreement with a Chinese company Shanxi Fenxi Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. based on the same technology. The agreement gives Shanxi Fenxi exclusive rights in China in renewing deteriorated train wheels with VTT developed PSF i.e. Precision Spray Forming technology. The technology is protected with several patents and can bring in significant savings and benefits compared to traditional technologies. The new technology strongly supports sustainable development as over one million deteriorated train wheels have been removed yearly in China and there has not been any suitable technology to fix them.
