Oplayo acquired by U-Turn Media and Slice Wireless

On 24th April 2006, it was announced that the U-Turn Media Group and its partner Slice Wireless have acquired Oplayo, a Finnish provider of leading mobile video platforms. According to a statement, U-Turn and Slice are now poised to profit from the inclusion of Oplayo technology in their on-device-portal technology. Prior to the acquisition, investors in Oplayo included BlueRun Ventures, Zouk Ventures, SAC Participations GmbH, Holtron and others.
Brad Keeling, co-founder of Slice Wireless, said "Oplayo has been an important element in our development and rollout of quality video services, enabling our content providers to reach and expand their existing audiences around the world with high-quality attractive mobile player technology."
Dominic Bignall, CEO of U-Turn Media Group, said "U-Turn recognised that the user experience is becoming the key factor in consumer take up of premium mobile services, Oplayo technology will allow us to combine our existing, interactive on-device-portal interface with a smoother, more unified, video delivery feature that will increase handset compatibility."
Access to the world of streaming mobile content
The U-Turn Media Group was founded in Prague in 2001 and has regional offices in Europe and the USA. According to U-Turn, it has already deployed applications in several countries and U-Turn is one of the first companies in the world to bring high-quality video content to mobile phones.
Slice is an international, carrier-independent publisher of mobile video and multimedia content. The company’s expertise lies in delivering content to subscribers and collecting related payments.
Founded in 1996, Oplayo has its headquarters in Helsinki and offices in Munich (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic) and Manila (Philippines). The company’s products are commercially deployed in more than 25 countries. According to Oplayo, regardless of which carrier they are using, almost anyone with a mobile phone can access the world of streaming mobile content using Oplayo technology.
