Europe’s largest industrial-gear factory to be built in Finland

Investment by SEW-EURODRIVE Group will create 150 new jobs in Karkkila

On 24th January 2006, the SEW-EURODRIVE Group announced that it has decided to build Europe’s largest industrial-gear factory in Karkkila in southern Finland. According to a statement, the expansion will increase the number of people employed by SEW Industrial Gears Oy from 120 to 270, and the 20,000 square-metre factory represents an investment of EUR 40 million. According to Jari Ainali, Managing Director of SEW Industrial Gears Oy, the new facility will design and manufacture products destined for the European and American markets.

Based in Germany, the SEW-EURODRIVE Group is a closely-held company with annual net sales of EUR 1,200 million and more than 10,000 employees. A leading company in drive technology, SEW-EURODRIVE manufactures geared motors and frequency inverters, servo-drive systems, decentralized drive systems and industrial gear units. The group has two entities in Finland - in addition to the SEW Industrial Gears production facility in Karkkila, SEW-EURODRIVE Oy, a specialist in industrial solutions, has its head office and an assembly plant in Hollola and technical offices in Helsinki and Vaasa.
